I had the privilege of having Natalie as my doula. This was my first birth. Initially I did not plan on having a natural birth. As my pregnancy progressed, I began to consider the option, but did not know enough to make an informed decision. I began meeting with Natalie, who answered my questions in detail and gave me more information to think through. Natalie was supportive, but never pressured me in my decisions. Natalie was available anytime I had questions or concerns. When it came time for the delivery, Natalie was my voice in the delivery room as well as my voice of reason. She helped me to communicate what I had said that I wanted, and she gave me options as well. Natalie supported every decision I made, and I can't imagine what it would have been like without her. I would highly recommend her to anyone that is interested in natural birth.” - Heather

"As a physician myself, I was impressed with Natalie's knowledge and with her dedication to evidence-based, current standards. She has an excellent balance of nurturing, holistic care and scientific understanding. She was very responsive to any of my questions during visits, on the phone, or via email, at any time."

My husband and I worked with Natalie during our pregnancy and fell in love with her.  She visited us several times and her focus was always on my health and well-being, and therefore on the health and well-being of our growing baby boy.  Pregnancy creates anxieties and stresses, even if it is also wonderful, and by educating me and reassuring me, Natalie truly made my pregnancy easier and enjoyable. As a physician myself, I was impressed with Natalie's knowledge and with her dedication to evidence-based, current standards. She has an excellent balance of nurturing, holistic care and scientific understanding. She was very responsive to any of my questions during visits, on the phone, or via email, at any time. Since the birth of our son I have stayed in touch with her and she has continued to provide helpful advice about postpartum issues.  Overall, I cannot say enough about how terrific she is. I would highly recommend her to any of my loved ones, and I have recommended her to many patients. - Aparna

Hiring Natalie was one of the best decisions we made during my pregnancy. I immediately felt less anxious and more at ease about the labor and delivery. This feeling grew with each meeting leading up to the due date.  She was at the hospital shortly after we were and worked hard through the entire labor, delivery, and stayed for a while afterwards. As if reading my mind, she knew exactly what I needed and hearing her encouraging words kept me going. My husband, David, was just as grateful, if not more, for her services. She helped him help me and kept him informed on what was happening. I was completely comfortable with Natalie and now consider her a good friend. I highly recommend hiring a doula and I highly recommend Natalie be that doula.  -Margaret Ann

“She brings a calm, confident, and nurturing presence and she is incredibly intuitive to a laboring mother’s needs. She was able to recognize when I needed to change positions to ease discomfort, when I needed encouragement, and when I just needed silence and space.”

Natalie was absolutely integral to the successful, natural, intervention-free birth of my 9 lb. 10 oz baby boy Henry. She brings a calm, confident, and nurturing presence and she is incredibly intuitive to a laboring mother's needs. She was able to recognize when I needed to change positions to ease discomfort, when I needed encouragement, and when I just needed silence and space. She came to my house so I could labor at home for as long as possible, and was absolutely incredible in helping me transition into the hospital setting at the most difficult point in my labor.  Her guidance and encouragement allowed me to feel empowered, brave, and supported so that I never even asked for drugs, even at the most trying moments.

She was also an amazing resource throughout my pregnancy and was always available to answer questions and research issues as they came up. She was especially helpful at the end of my pregnancy when discussion of a cesarean arose because of my son's estimated size from the ultrasound.  I was scared to tears, but Natalie gave me the relevant information and research so I could make an informed decision.  She told me she would support me no matter what, but she also said "you can do this!"  The next morning I gave birth to an enormous baby with no issues or problems whatsoever. Natalie is an amazing doula and I cannot recommend her enough.  -Katie

Natalie is a gem. She is professional, organized, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about all aspects of being a doula and childbirth. She kept me informed along the way, and was able to answer any question I had during my pregnancy. Her energy is infectious, and she has excellent communication skills."

Prior to becoming pregnant, I had always felt that our society had gotten too disconnected from the natural beauty of birth.  I spent countless hours researching pregnancy and natural childbirth to try to find a way to reconnect with birth.  From that research, I knew I wanted to find someone who could support my vision of birth, and the answer was for my husband and me to hire a doula for our birth.  Early in pregnancy I met with several wonderful local doulas (all very well qualified and awesome women), but I felt an instant connection with Natalie the very first meeting we had together,  and we have maintained that connection well past the birth of my daughter.Natalie is a gem.  She is professional, organized, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about all aspects of being a doula and childbirth.  She kept me informed along the way, and was able to answer any question I had during my pregnancy.  She made herself available to me, and I could tell she was genuinely supportive of my birth plan and goals. Her energy is infectious, and she has excellent communication skills.

In my personal opinion, one of the best financial investments one can make for their birth is to hire a doula.  It is (for some) the single most important event in one’s life.  To me, it was a no brainer that I needed someone there to advocate for me.  This was the first birth for my husband and me, so I knew I wanted to be able to rest easy knowing I could focus on the inner strength I needed for birth and let my doula handle the other aspects of birth with which we were not prepared to deal.  I also knew I needed a lot of emotional support, and my husband also needed a lot of emotional support, so a doula was the best solution.

Natalie went above and beyond and truly helped my husband and me have a completely intervention free natural childbirth.  She was there with me 100% and I will be forever grateful for her support and compassion.  It was not an easy labor, but I truly believe that I was successful in part because Natalie was a fantastic doula and was there for me every step of the way.  She really was amazing and I cannot recommend her enough! Good luck with your birth! -Andrea

"Natalie supported us through the entire process while still making it seem intimate with my husband supporting me through labor.  Natalie did not have her own “agenda” for my birth but rather learned my goals and supported me in achieving them."

For my third pregnancy my husband and I decided to partner (I specifically use this word because that’s what it truly is) with a doula for the following reasons:

    •    I wanted a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean) and wanted to do everything I could to ensure my opportunity to have a VBAC as well as result in a successful vaginal delivery.   My first pregnancy was an induced labor at 36 weeks (fully medicated and with an epidural).  My second pregnancy resulted in a caesarean section at 39 weeks because the baby was in breach position.

    •    Because I wanted a VBAC, I wanted to ensure the best-case scenario to keep my c-section scar from rupturing.  For me this best case was managing my gestational diabetes, allowing my body to go into labor naturally, not using medications such as pitocin since that can result in stronger contractions affecting the integrity of my scar, and not getting an epidural since that can stall labor and often result in a c-section.

    •    I also wanted to have some “ownership” in my labor.  I wanted to be best positioned to understand what was happening during each stage of labor, I wanted to be able to move freely during the labor process (meaning no epidural that would tie me to the bed), I wanted someone to guide me to ensure the contractions were working towards labor,  I wanted to someone that would guide me through handling the pain of contractions and the labor process, and I wanted to have someone there with my husband and I that was totally there for just me (meaning I didn’t have to share her with other patients).

I’m thankful for Natalie’s support through the end of my pregnancy and during the labor process.  She spent time getting to know us and learning what my husband and I wanted with our third pregnancy.  Based on what we wanted she recommended a few topics that I should research and she also gave me some good questions and conversations to bring to my OBGYN.  Natalie was also a resource for questions that popped up in the last few weeks of pregnancy; everything from how the hospital I was delivering at operated, what to bring with me to the hospital, or particular questions about my pregnancy.  Natalie met us at the hospital when I went into labor.  She was there with my husband and I and guided us through what I might be feeling and how to manage the pain.  She gave my husband suggestions to comfort me and to help me through my contractions.  Natalie supported us through the entire process while still making it seem intimate with my husband supporting me through labor.  Natalie did not have her own “agenda” for my birth but rather learned my goals and supported me in achieving them.

I’m happy to say that I was blessed with a 9 pound 12 ounce baby girl that was 21 inches long.  I went into labor naturally at 40 weeks and 2 days.  I was in labor in the hospital for about six and a half hours and delivered our third child with an unmedicated VBAC.  I truly believe that Natalie was an instrumental part of this successful result.  We cannot thank Natalie enough for her support during our pregnancy and would whole-heartedly recommend her as a birth doula. - Sassha

"I was able to deliver a healthy, happy baby boy naturally and I truly believe it was because of the support I received from Natalie. Her personable and empathetic spirit help to create a calming and helpful environment in the birthing room, and the passion she has for natural childbirth is evident in dedication and enthusiasm she pours into her work."

When my family moved to Tuscaloosa, AL in December of 2011, I was 7 months pregnant while trying to make this big transition for my husband, myself, and my 2 year-old.  My first birth had been nothing but stress and confusion, and I knew I wanted a different experience the second time around.  Immediately I started researching birth doulas in the area and made contact with Natalie. When I met her for coffee the following week, I knew very soon into the interview she was the doula for me! Her warm personality, encouraging spirit, and extensive knowledge about natural child-birth immediately set me at ease for this decision I had made to invest in natural labor support.  She asked me what I wanted out of my child-birth this time, and explained the different areas where she could help emotionally and physically to get me through my labor.

Although Natalie is technically “on-call” two weeks prior to your due date, she would correspond over the phone much more than that, and be willing to e-mail back and forth weekly to receive updates on appointments and so forth.  During the labor process, she was at the hospital when active labor started and even a little before.  The natural pain relief techniques she used helped me cope with natural labor.  Natalie was also able to work with my husband to help him become the best labor advocate he could be during that time for me.  When I became emotionally weak during part of the labor process, she was able to talk me through it calmly and encourage me to continue on strong.  She consistently asked me what I needed, and how else she could be serving me with tasks even outside of her call of duty. She also visited me two weeks postpartum to make sure I was having a successful breastfeeding and bonding experience.

I was able to deliver a healthy, happy baby boy naturally and I truly believe it was because of the support I received from Natalie. Her personable and empathetic spirit help to create a calming and helpful environment in the birthing room, and the passion she has for natural childbirth is evident in dedication and enthusiasm she pours into her work.

As an advocate for women in labor, I highly recommend Natalie to anyone looking to have a successful natural birth experience. - Becky
